The Position

You will work within a team of R&D scientists and engineers in a quick-moving, diverse and pro-active environment to assist in the development of new tests for our novel and proprietary point of care diagnostic platform. Reporting to the Senior R&D Manager, you will play a key part in contributing to the further development of a range of applications and assays on our unique io platform that is a world-first in molecular diagnostics providing laboratory-quality results in 30 minutes. This exciting opportunity will expand the menu of tests that help patients receive a quick diagnosis when they need it and clinicians to truly operate a test and treat environment. You will join a project team within the wider Research & Development group that carries out the design, development, and optimization of nucleic acid tests onto system prototypes, prior to full integration onto binx’s diagnostic platform. This role will involve formulation design, including reagent calculations and supporting transfer to manufacture and be the subject matter expert in electrochemical detection

Responsibilities

  • Join a project team within the wider Research & Development group, that carries out the design, development, and optimization of nucleic acid tests onto system prototypes, prior to full integration onto binx’s diagnostic platform.
  • Assist in the design & development of system-based nucleic acid medical diagnostic devices
  • Compose well-structured experimental plans
  • Responsible for reagent design calculations
  • High-quality execution of laboratory experiments
  • Provide advice on electrochemical detection to the R&D team
  • Optimisation of assays to meet performance requirements and ensure patient safety
  • Assist in the transfer to manufacturing of assay designs
  • Laboratory report writing & presentation of results
  • Testing and validation of performance of assay reagents and assay protocols
  • Work within an ISO13485 Quality Management System

Education, Experience, and Demonstrated Skills

  • BSc or First Degree in Chemistry-based discipline (Ph.D. in a relevant Chemistry-based discipline preferred)
  • 3+ years of IVD product development experience, preferably in infectious disease diagnostics or related
  • 3+ years of laboratory-based experience
  • Experience in working within multi-disciplinary projects and across teams to hit goals
  • Significant knowledge and experience working to meet regulatory requirements of the IVDD and FDA for IVDs
  • Strong chemistry knowledge, including formulation design
  • Strong analytical data analysis skills including application of appropriate statistics to interpret data in an appropriate way
  • Working knowledge and application of Design History File documentation and Design and Development process
  • Experimental design, data analysis & problem-solving
  • Experience in transferring designs to manufacture
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrochemical detection
  • Molecular biology knowledge
  • PCR integration onto plastic disposable devices
  • Experience in qPCR and analysis
  • Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills to deliver key messages across the business
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to manage dependencies between project
  • Proven ability to work to project timescales/deadlines
  • Working within a team to achieve company goals
  • Precise and timely completion of laboratory notebooks
  • Attention to detail
