The Position

The Lab Technician will work within a team of R&D scientists and engineers in a fast-moving, diverse and pro-active environment to assist in the development of new tests for our novel and proprietary Point of Care diagnostic platform. Reporting to the Assay Development Manager, and with guidance from the Research and Development team, you will provide support in developing a range of infectious disease diagnostic tests for our unique Point of Care diagnostic platform, the binx io. This exciting opportunity will expand the menu of tests enabling patients to receive a sub-30 minute diagnosis when they need it and for clinicians to truly operate a “test and treat” environment. You will join a project team within the wider Research & Development group that carries out the design, development, and optimization of nucleic acid tests onto system prototypes, prior to full integration onto binx’s diagnostic platform. This role will involve supporting scientists with the design, development, and optimization of nucleic acid tests onto system prototypes, prior to full integration onto binx’s diagnostic platform.


  • Assist Scientists in their day to day work designing and developing rapid point of care nucleic acid tests
  • Laboratory report writing and presentation of results
  • Reagent preparation & quantification for R&D activities
  • Reagent stock control and procurement
  • Organisation of calibration maintenance and records
  • Maintenance of QMS records relating to the laboratory (e.g. cleaning records, pipette calibration clinic records)
  • Technician support to engineering and QC departments as required
  • Follow and engage in the Quality Management System

Education, Experience, and Demonstrated Skills

  • Biology/Chemistry-related BSc (or relevant industrial experience)
  • Direct experience working in a commercial or academic laboratory environment
  • Experience working within a regulated-laboratory environment
  • IVD product development experience, preferably in infectious disease diagnostics or related
  • Molecular biology knowledge and demonstrated application to the development of infectious disease assays
  • Practical experience handling reagents
  • Experimental design, data analysis & problem-solving
  • Experience in PCR and molecular techniques
  • Eager to learn and adapt to new concepts
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and within a diverse team of scientists and engineers
  • Organised and logical approach to tasks
  • Proactive and efficient attitude able to adapt to new tasks and time demands
  • Efficient and timely completion of tasks
